Promoting the Fundamental Human Right of Religious Liberty in US Foreign Policy

Barb Rieffer-Flanagan

Abstract

The fundamental right to freedom of religion and belief has been violated throughout the world. Although various American administrations discussed the importance of the right to freedom of religion, this right has often taken a backseat to realism. In addition there is no clear strategy in Washington to promote this right. If Washington developed a long term strategy it would be establishing the foundation so that the right of freedom of religion and belief could develop over time.
