Moral Education in Plato’s Republic

Abstract


Recent studies of Plato’s account of moral education in the Republic have enabled us to recognize it as potentially successful in achieving its goals. This essay reviews Plato’s program, drawing on that literature, and evaluates criticisms of it in relation to the moral and rational formation of its product, the auxiliary.
