Implementing clinical nursing supervision in Singapore hospitals
The lack of professional commitment and development in
nursing practice has become a significant causative factor for nurses increasing
turnover rate and shortage of nurses. In view of the increasing numbers of
hospital and community hospital services over the next few years, shortage of
nurses will become a serious challenge to the effectiveness of any healthcare
system. One way to improve the professional development and reduce turn over
is through effective clinical supervision. Clinical supervision traditionally
started from western countries, providing nurses with professional development
and career progression. Furthermore, clinical supervision when performed
properly would be able to resolve some of the job base issue faced by nurses.
The implementation of clinical supervision would increase the support given to
the nurses and provide career development.
