Does Translation Have an Agenda?
Abstract
This paper focuses on examples throughout history to
reveal how translation operates at the intersection of language
and power. The manner and the uses of translations have had
far-reaching consequences, shaping not only historical events but
literary ones as well. Translation Studies is more than just a
growing field: it sits squarely at the center of the cultural turn in
the humanities, where related issues such as ethics or
postcolonialism attract attention and inform the field.
